Introduction

Langkawi Award- Environmental Sustainability is a prestigious national award bestowed on Malaysian citizens and organizations that have achieved excellence in the field of environment through significant and significant contributions towards the preservation and conservation of the environment in the fields of management, business, scientific research, academia. , writing and other environmental related fields.

This program is one of the programs organized by the Department of Environment (DOE) in conjunction with the Malaysian Environment Week (MASM) Celebration each year beginning in 1991, in line with the Langkawi Declaration signed by the Commonwealth Heads of State in 1989. Starting in 2016, this program was organized in conjunction with the National Environment Day (HASN).

The objective of the program is to recognize individuals and organizations that have been successful

  1. Increase public participation in the preservation and conservation of the environment;
  2. Produce a significant impact and successfully solve environmental problems locally and internationally; and
  3. Bringing public attention to significant environmental problems or mobilizing the actions of all parties towards their solution

Nominations for this award are open to individuals and organizations among members of the Environmental Quality Council (EQC), State Governments, GLCs and Private Companies, Non-Governmental Organizations, Public/ Private Institutions of Higher Learning and all Ministries which are partly Strategic Partners JAS.

The recipient of this award received a certificate signed by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, a plaque of appreciation from the Minister of MESTECC as well as a cash prize of RM10,000.00.

For the implementation of the 2017/2018 program, the nomination process was implemented on 1 March – 15 June 2018, while the award ceremony was held on 8 November 2018 at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel in conjunction with HASN 2018 presented by YB Puan Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Minister of MESTECC. The recipient of the award for the individual category is  YBhg.  Prof. Dato ‘Dr. Mazlin bin Mokhtar , Principal Fellow, Institute of Environment and Development (LESTARI) while the recipient for the organization category is  Sime Darby Plantation Berhad .
