The establishment of the Environmental Quality Council (EQC) is provided under Section 4, Environmental Quality Act (EQA) 1974 whose functions shall be generally to advise the Yang Berhormat Minister on matters pertaining tu EQA 1974 and any matter referred to it by the YB Minister.

YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) has appointed YBrs. Prof. Dr. Maketab bin Mohamed as the Chairman of the Environmental Quality Council (EQC) for the period of 30th August 2024 until 29th August 2027. The list of the chairman and members of Environmental Quality Council (EQC) are as in Attachment below.
