THE 21st MSJCE WG, 2025

The 21st MSJCE WG Meeting was hosted by Singapore through the National Environment Agency (NEA) from 9 to 11 September 2025. The meeting was co-chaired by YBhg. Dato’ Wan Abdul Latiff bin Wan Jaffar, Director General of Environment, Malaysia, and Mr. Wong Kang Jet, Chief Executive Officer of NEA, Singapore.

The meeting was attended by Malaysian delegations from DOE, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and other agencies including the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Security Council, Malaysia Marine Department, Johor Port Authority, National Hydrographic Centre, Malaysian Space Agency, Department of Fisheries, Department of Survey and Mapping, and the Johor State Economic Planning Unit. The Singapore delegation comprised representatives from NEA, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Attorney-General’s Chambers, Ministry of National Development, Maritime and Port Authority, Public Utilities Board, Housing and Development Board, National Parks Board, and Jurong Town Council.

Key discussion points included pollution control and environmental quality monitoring, particularly involving vehicular emissions; joint seawater monitoring; joint exercise and cooperation in managing chemical and oil spill incidents; as well as the planning of a capacity-building workshop between EiMAS and SEI scheduled for October 2025 in Malaysia. Both countries also shared information on ecological conservation programs in the Straits of Johor as an ongoing effort toward environmental sustainability.

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit Mandai Bird Paradise, an eco-friendly destination showcasing various sustainable initiatives.

The meeting emphasized the importance of continuing close cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore, in line with the positive progress that can be discussed in the upcoming MSJCE meetings.
